Review of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) by Mark P — 21 Sep 2008
This film is perfect, it shows a tenderness to the old world but insists it must be jettisoned, presents the Germans as human but accepts the rationale that the Nazis must be mercilessly crushed. It has a great love story (stories), a great friendship and two scenes featuring Anton Walbrook as the older Theo which are quiet and reserved but amoungst the most breathtaking I've ever seen in a film.
And Roger Livesey is great.
