Review of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) by Terry K — 14 Nov 2010
The first time I saw this film, it was on the Armed Forces Network (AFN) in Germany in the early '80's. The print was an ancient, worn black and white print which was highly edited. Even in that truncated form, there was something magical about the film.
I fell in love with it's humanity. The performances of Roger Livesey, Deborah Kerr and Anton Wolbrook exude decency and warmth and there is a real sence of period to the piece. This is definitely one of my "desert island discs.
