The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp is a fantastic character study on a man who refuses to "fight dirty". Clive Candy is a true British gentleman and soldier his entire life, but the world is changing around him into something that he does not want to accept.

War begins at midnight! The film is beautifully shot in technicolor. It's rare that you get a war film with such high saturation in its colors. The chemistry between leads, Clive and Theo, is very genuine and believable.

And the make-up... the make-up is astounding. The film chronicles most of Clive Candy's life, and he transforms from a spry young man into a fat, bald codger. And he does so flawlessly. Modern films should take note, that this is how you make someone age (I'm looking at you J.

Edgar!). The film has a rather long running time, but the story and characters are so fleshed out that it isn't a huge problem. It's a great film about the end of the 'gentleman's war' and I highly recommend it to any fans of the genre.
