Review of The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008) by Jeffrey L — 21 Apr 2009
I didn't really like the first movie, but thought the second was better. I'm happy to say this one is easily the best.
In this third entry in the Made-for-TV movie series, Flynn is on vacation when he gets caught up with remnants of the KGB that are trying to find the Judas Chalice - a cup that can bring dead things back to life - so they can resurrect Dracula's body and create an army of vampires to rule the world.
Due to the subject matter of this entry (I.E. Vampires) this entry is much much darker then the previous two. There's blood-drinking, vampires mutilating people, vampires getting staked, ect. Also, this entry is probably the one where the bad guys came the closest to winning out of all three movies and its only blind luck that Flynn prevailed in this one.
This is also the movie in the series that's made the best from a technical stand-point. The acting from everyone is much improved over the last two movies, the special effects are great, there's hardly any of that overly-cheesy theme music and instead they go with new music for most of the movie. overall, I was really impressed with it.
Another thing about this movie, while the first two felt like Indiana Jones mixed with Tomb Raider, this one felt like National Treasure mixed with Blade - They never leave the U.S.A. in this entry, and like in National Treasure, they follow one clue to one State, then another clue to another State, ect. During that, we also get to find out a lot more about Fynn's boss, and that information sets up the next movie perfectly, and sets it up to be a much bigger kind of plot.
There's not as many action sequences in this one as there were in the first two, but that was ok, cause I was impressed with everything else, plus all the twists during the movie, that I didn't even notice until after the movie was over, that there was actually only two or three action scenes.
