Review of The Libertine (2004) by Tomas T — 21 Jun 2008
This is a personal portrait movie of the Earl of Rochester, a synical self centered genious writer who lived a colorful life. The movie takes place on the filthy streets of Londong during the 17th century. The earl is no means a nice man, pretty much the opposite. Still he is such a unique character that I think many of the people during his time found him fascinating and intresting.
The movie lies heavily on the shoulders of actor performances which Depp pulls of nicely in my mind. The dialogue follows the times theme which some might find irritating, personally I found it intresting. The libertine is not for the masses that much is clear, but I would recomend it anybody wanting to stray away from the mainstream.
