Review of The Leopard Man (1943) by Jack S — 27 Jan 2008
I'm watching the Lewton films in the order TCM showed them, and through three they've gotten progressively worse. This one relies a little more on standard scare tactics than the others. There are enough brilliant moments to recommend this (the castanets motif, the spooky procession, and once again dark abandoned streets), but the overall mood just wasn't there.
Fun to see the doctor from "Walked With a Zombie" as the curator here. In a modern remake, I could imagine Buscemi in that role, and Paris Hilton as the leading lady!
