Project Green Light is a television show that was around for a bit and then disappeared for a few years. It is a pet project of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The idea is a sort of contest where budding directors try to get select to direct a full length feature film.

None of the previous seasons have produced a movie worth watching and this is no exception. The picked Jason Mann to direct a script of their choice. He started right off convincing them to switch to a script he had written.

The television show then goes on, rather quickly, to show what goes into making a film. Mann is obviously in way over his head but remains clueless about it. The two veteran producers selected to help him are ignored from the first where he insists on using film instead of digital (for television? what's the deal?).

Anyway Mann wanders around with a bottle of water that only lacks a nipple to complete the image. The resulting film is a disaster; it is suppose to be funny but there are only a couple of laughs here.

I don't know what the future of Project Green Light is, but I suspect HBO will not sign on for another effort. I think this is only on television so far, but if it comes to a theater near you. . .

Do something else.
