First off, I have point out that this is a movie set in the...Lego Cinematic Universe(?) meaning if you're expecting a film adaptation of the TV show, you're going to be disappointed. Anyhoo, The Lego Ninjago Movie is definitely the weakest Lego film at the moment.

Hell, it's Warner Animation Group's weakest movie at the moment and only one of them wasn't Lego and even that was better than this movie. Seems like the decline in quality in the theatrical Lego flicks came a bit prematurely.

Granted, this isn't the first time Warner Bros. has released two movies of the same franchise within the same year but even they had an identity. Here, there's way too much focus on Lloyd with the other ninjas having no personality beyond Lloyd's friends.

The movie's also a bit mean-spirited. Except his mother and his friends, EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE despises Lloyd's guts for the AWFUL crime of being related to the villain. Because after all, all people related to villains are burdens upon society that should kill themselves even if they mostly appear to be nice guys.

Lloyd is a serious woobie, man. I'll admit I;m being a bit too hard on this movie so here are some redeeming qualities: the animation is gorgeous with characters probably moving at an even smoother rate than in the first two Lego movies, the voice acting is enjoyable (Justin Theroux certainly seems to be having fun voicing Garmadon), some of the jokes work and the drama is decent.

The Lego Ninjago Movie fails to live up to the first two movies - hell, the action, despite its energetic movement isn't as crazy and over-the-top that it's exciting isn't as thrilling as in the last two movies - and actually feels like it's targeted more towards kids more than the last two-movies which had plenty of fun for all-ages yet it's still serviceable enough to keep people diverted for yet another 100 minutes.

My God, I do hope Lego and Batman weren't just flukes. Seriously, should I be worried about Smallfoot and the Teen Titans Go! movie?
