Review of The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017) by Jag%20 G — 10 Sep 2018
This is truly a masterpiece of a film. While the first Lego movie tackled the heroes journey, this installment tackles oedipal themes in a way I have never seen in a family film. Lego doesn't pull any punches or jump to any cheesy, easy conclusions- Father/Son relationships are messy and complicated and sometimes a crappy dad doesn't change, and all that's left is your choice about how you are going to deal with that. It's both timely and timeless. Plus there is AMAZING choreography throughout. The influence of Jackie Chan can be seen shining through the lego minifigures- which is stunning in its detail. Brilliant brilliant brilliant.
Zane is the biggest departure from the tv show, but has some of the biggest laughs.
Garmadon is delightfully played by Justin Therouix. Endlessly.
Quotable.
I've watched this movie a half dozen times and each time I'm both amazed by the brilliance, and I see some new detail I missed. Plus Lady Iron Dragon is my new favorite lego character of all time.
Best Lego Movie.
