Review of The Lego Batman Movie (2017) by Abm0 — 23 Feb 2017

Not as good as the first LEGO Movie, which I rated an 8 and later updated to a 9 seeing as it ultimately made me want to re-watch it twice, but not a catastrophe either. Sort of on par with Ice Age 5: I went in quite hopeful and was somewhat disappointed.

Maybe it's aimed more narrowly at kids this time, as the story is quite a bit more corny than the previous one. Higher-tech animation and better music but the action sequences were way too fast-paced and that may have led to a number of jokes getting wasted because one just couldn't keep up with everything that was happening and everything being said.

Overall, I didn't catch nearly as many clever jokes as last time, so I was left with a feeling of "meh" (but then I have very high expectations of comedy and I almost never watch Hollywood's animations or comedies since I find them all depressingly low-grade).
