Gritty, dark tones oozed throughout the duration of this film - and it paid off in the most parts. Realism played a bigger role in it when compared to its contemporaries. There were also some happy, shrill periods to balance bits out as well.
Drawbacks include protracted periods of monotony and fairly predictable plot devices.
