Review of The Legend of Hercules (2014) by Saitou Y — 24 Feb 2015
It's as if director Renny Harlin wanted to learn Greek mythology, watched Gladiator and then said, "Oh, I can do that, but much worse." The plot is almost ripped-off from the 2000- Best Picture winner exactly, having the godly Hercules (Kellan Lutz) soiled and thrown into the arena, where he (the son of Zeus) must build a name for himself in gladiatorial combat and work the support of the crowd in order to gain his vengeance against a jealous tyrant with daddy issues. If that wasn't enough, the visuals are very much melange of 300, with the super stylized, yelling not acting actors in slow-mo action. Think of it as 300, trying to take a IQ test. That being said, a sword-and-sandals epic shouldn't be on the edge of putting you to sleep, but Hercules goes there. It also goes as 2014's worst movie on my list. Harlin? Mythology is not your thing, even the costumes from goodwill ain't your budget. What a way to end 2014.
