Its certainly not scary, but the characters are sooo serious that its funny. Of course the ghosts perform on demand for the scientist (who denounces the mediums shortly before explaining to his wife the differences between different mediums and what they feel!) If I never see another movie with so many closeups of bad british teeth I will be a happy man.
