Focus of this movie is a man who entered the war with illusions, and returned with bigger desillusions and the loss of the meaning of life. Golf was his life, and being tired of life, he is also tired of golf.

Because of the chosen parallel, it helps if you enjoy golf, but just like with Field of dreams (which is less dramatic) it is not necessary to enjoy the story.
