I'll admit, i'd never seen this till recently. It's not that I didn't want to or annything, but it just happened to be one of those that passed me by.

Now I have seen it, I gotta say I kinda liked this movie, quite a bit. It's formulic, granted, but it just sort of like what Redford did with the formula that I enjoyed.

He captures a spirit in a sport. it didn't relly matter that it was golf, it could have been anything but he really painted a picture oh how matt Damon' character got his swing back with the help of well....god, I guess.

Will Smith really nailed this role. And for so early on in his film career he is completely at ease in this support role. If it wasn't the Will Smith we all knew and this was his first movie, he would have got a hel of a lot more applause for this one I think.

I really liked Charlize her as well. Movies of around this time with her in them them never let her play with the role as much as she was allowed to here. She was a delight. Funny, Vunerable, a little kooky. This is a real memeorable performance from Charlize.

Overall I just really enjoyed redford's work here. Despite all of the cliches with the old guy (Jack Lemon) voiceover's, the play on the breaking points of the game and the almost cartoon character support roles, he still managed to make this a spiritual journey that made you want Damon's character to find his way in life again. To over come his demons and get his life back in order. Total cliche sports movie stuff, but I bought in and went with it and found it agreat little satuday night watcher.
