Review of The Ledge (2011) by Runar H — 23 Jun 2011
Some people see the world empty, ugly, meaningless and hope for paradise after death. Others, like Gavin, deal with all that life is dishing out even if it is full of suffering or asking for sacrifice here and now.
Dealing with life in real time is not easy but it is the right thing to do and THE LEDGE is about that and more. There is right and there is wrong, there is black and there is white, there is straight and there is gay, there are happy man/women and lots of unhappy people in this life and in this independent intelligent, well-acted precious film.
Forbidden love, forgiveness and sacrifice are just a few of the themes of this triple layered tragedy. Liv Tylor is remarkable in her roll of the troubled Christian wife, so is Charlie Hunnam as the secular humanist divorcee.
I liked the film for its wealth of social issues seen through love and relationships, and who said having a relationship is uncomplicated?
