Review of The Ledge (2011) by Alex R — 03 Jun 2011
If Heath Ledger & Brad Pitt had a love child, we'd hardly be surprised to learn he's an actor - or that his name is Charlie Hunnam. (Though we might be a little confused by the fact that he's neither Australian OR American - but British . . . ).
I stumbled upon THE LEDGE (npi) while perusing the On Demand offerings under one of the indie-ish film categories. I hoped for a couple hours of breezy, offbeat entertainment, an enjoyable diversion, easily forgotten. I sure didn't expect to be blown away . . . but this strange, erotic little film (shot in Loisianna), had me from Scene One. And, while the story and script have a few disappointing patches, the dynamic between Mr. Hunnam, Patrick Wilson and (never could have imagined I'd be writing this:) Liv Tyler - as a broken soul, resigned to life with Wilson's twisted, oppressive Born Again fanatic - is absolutely combustible. Tyler's affair with Hunnam's Joe - a man whose soul has gone missing after his own unthinkable tragedy - brings them both palpably back to life, but it also inadvertently leads Hunnam to his one, shattering.
Chance at redemption.
If you love indies, I recommend this one.
