Review of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) by Jack G — 28 Jul 2009
This is, like Transformers, just an indifferent action vehicle where the effects and CGI (not all of it very good) trump story and character. The filmmakers grab on to the characters well enough from the Alan Moore/Kevin O'Neill book, at least at first.
Then it turns into what it appears to be: a 20th Century Fox action extravaganza that also is, sadly, Sean Connery's farewell movie. It's not horrible, it's just... meh. I also have many bones to pick comparing to the book, from the depictions of Edward Hyde and Invisible Man and Nina Harker, to the little things like, I don't know, translation of WIT.
Compared to this, Watchmen is Taxi Driver.
