Review of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) by Brent C — 30 Dec 2011
Considering how badly this was panned when it was released I found it pretty entertaining. Being a fan of the graphic novels I came in with some prior knowledge and already liking the story and concept.
Having said that the film, although based on the novels is not overly faithful to them. For the most part the characters are here but some are a little different than how they are portrayed in the novels.
The story has some of the plot points from the novels but mostly it is an entirely different plot. I think with such good source material it was a mistake to stray so far from it. I thought Connery was great as Quatermain, Nemo was great, but the others were all slightly off.
An entertaining watch nevertheless. Has the distinction of being the first film on Blu-ray that I watched since purchasing my own.
