Review of The Lazarus Effect (2015) by Jack G — 08 Mar 2015
For what it tries to do - it aims low - it accomplishes what it sets out to do. A very good movie? I dunno. But it's not bad really, despite it taking from various sources (Re-Animator, comic-book movies surprisingly, like Lucy or even the X-Men - this is basically the Dark Phoenix saga from X-Men only more as a horror movie).
Mark Duplass has some good taste, it seems. Olivia Wilde is creepy enough as well. Too many jump scares and a direct lift from Barton Fink for a dream sequence- come on, I get it, the LIFE OF THE MIND sort of thing - but it's much better than I expected.
