Review of The Lawnmower Man (1992) by Melanie F — 16 May 2008
I've seen some stupid things in my life, but very little compares to the level of mind numbing idiocy that The Lawnmower Man reaches. Conceptually it's not a total flop. There are moments that are, in fact, thought provoking.
You may be able to count these moments on one hand, but they are present. The very end moment is also a strong choice. Those might be the only admirably qualities in the movie. The more traditional "horror" moments are executed in a laughably amateur fashion and the writing and acting is equally laughable all around.
More importantly than anything else the movie feels dated. The effects are atrocious and even the philosophical ideas seem ancient. I really can't recommend this movie to anyone unless they feel like causing severe mental anguish to themselves.
