Review of The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) by Joel A — 18 Aug 2010
When it comes to 'Brit Wit' no one was better than Ealing Studios and this is a delicious British Comedy indeed. The film is just so clever, and really funny it really holds up 60+ years on.
Both Alec Guiness (aka Obi Wan) and Stanley Holloway just work so well of one another, they are a complete crack up. Their antics never cease, they make great viewing.
The film just flows like a dream, and manages never to get to carried away the director manages to balance it so well, because the film is zanny but not stupid. The timing, pacing and dryness of British Films are impeccable a must see classic film...
Also keep an eye out for a young at the time unknown Audrey Hepburn who makes a brief apprearance in the early minutes of the film...
