Review of The Late Show (1977) by Trent R — 08 Jul 2010
***1/2 (out of four).
A clever and fun semi-spoof of the detective/gumshoe genre with wonderfully memorable characters and a breezy script that delivers just the right amount of jokes and suspense.
Lily Tomlin plays a woman who has just had her cat kidnapped for ransom. She hires old broken down deteceive Ari (Art Carney) to help get the cat back. But Ari knows that this goes much deeper than just catnapping.
Carney and Tomlin are great in their award calliber performances. The film is just a great time all the way around.
