Review of The Last Witch Hunter (2015) by John P — 20 Oct 2015
I saw an advance screening of The Last Witch Hunter last night. It's a supernatural action film based on Vin Diesel's Dungeons and Dragons witch hunter character. I love Vin Diesel and Elijah Wood, and I liked this film.
Was it the best film ever? No. Was it the best in its category? No. Did I enjoy every minute? Yes. It was fun, entertaining, cute, and clever enough. As usual, I saw the supposed surprise coming from a mile away.
But the audience was audibly shocked. They gasped in unison. Still--so much fun. Liking this film reminds me of when I really liked the film Pitch Black. It didn't get good reviews from critics, but they were wrong.
Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick are still two of my favorites. Was TLWH as good as them? No. But as a series, it could get better and better. Forget the critics, and don't spoil the movie by reading them and/or watching a bunch of trailers.
Just go and have good time.
