Review of The Last Witch Hunter (2015) by Celestino S — 30 Jan 2016
Perhaps the best that can be said for this film is that it is not as bad as one might expect. It is nonetheless an exercise in banality, suffering most for its convoluted plot which unravels with increasing rapidity the more one reflects upon it. No aspect of this film represents something we haven't seen before, but the world which this film establishes is actually somewhat intriguing. It is therefore a shame to see the first entry in what might have been a more compelling franchise so badly spoiled by such a misstep right off the bat.
This is no doubt one of Michael Caine's paycheck projects, and Elijah Wood will disappoint. Vin Diesel does what he does best (turns and looks past the camera angrily), but Rose Leslie was a bright spot, despite what a badly developed character she was given to work with.
