Review of The Last Winter (2006) by Tanis S — 28 Dec 2007
I like the idea of nature ghost thingies fighting back against humans. I read someone else's thoughts on IMDB and he said "I wonder what Al Gore would think of The Last Winter." I wonder myself too, seeing as this movie boils down to a big liberal outcry against man destroying nature for oil.
I like the ambiguous ending, you get just enough of it to feel satisfied, and I like endings that are left intentionally open, not for a sequel, but to make you think about it. All that said, I didn't find the movie extremely compelling in any way, but it was an enjoyable horror movie, which is more than I can say for most shit coming out these days.
There are also some fantastic wide shots of the tundra that are pretty captivating. I also thought the effects of the monsters were pretty cool as well.
