Review of The Last Winter (2006) by Juan G — 31 May 2008
East Village horror director Larry Fessenden follows a group of oil company workers, green activists and scientists to the wastes of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Unlike "Wendigo" or "Habit," the wait for something scary to happen is absolutely interminable-- I counted 50 minutes of expositional prep.
The second half, however, is genuinely grim and unsettling, as nature rises up against man and his despoliations.
