The problems with this film are conspicuous and (mostly) ignored by positive criticism: it doesn't have a leg to stand on without the abundant Kubrickisms; and it condescends to the audience the instant that the characters' fears are physically manifested (with unnecessary CGI)--the same problem that crippled Lars von Trier's "Breaking the Waves.
".
