Review of The Last Winter (2006) by Bryant D — 31 May 2009
Starts out as if it's going to be a retread of The Thing with climate change twists. That turns out not to be too far off, and that's not the problem--the main problem is that the time the story takes to get going isn't well-used, and that the eventual mystical aspects that are the source of the characters' problems are left, even at the end, too vague to be truly scary.
There are some good moments and some tense scenes, but the end effect is of disappointment in the outcome.
