Review of The Last Waltz (1978) by Heather C — 11 Apr 2009
I never got The Band, and this movie doesn't help explain what was supposed to be special about them: They're good musicians, but they don't have a distinct sound, and one suspects that's what Dylan liked about them.
That said, this is enjoyable for the guest stars making appearances during the concert- it tells you a lot about 1975 to see the Staples Singers, Muddy Waters, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young nervously sharing the same stage.
It's not the best concert film ever made, but it's funny to see trademark Scorsese camera work in a rock concert.
