Peter Beagle wrote his own script for this and you can tell -- the fantastic, funny and whimsical moments from the book are all here, from the butterfly's song to Mommy Fortuna's Midnight Carnival, to "that's what heroes are for.
" The animation may seem simple now, but it's still beautiful, especially the waves. This movie makes me happy. Not to mention that it inspired an entire childhood of loving (and looking for) unicorns.
