Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by James J — 17 Dec 2007
Truly has you wondering if there's anything Scorcese can't do. Whether its a script penned by some japanese geniuses or the New Testament of The Bible itself, Marty grips the audience by the throat.
Though Willem Defoe looks nothing like Christ, he performs every line with meticulous perfection. Though sure to raise some anger from Catholic authorities, keep in mind, it is fiction, and truly interesting fiction at that.
Raises the question of "what if Jesus chose not to be crucified?" and depicts Christ as a man subject to tempatation, truly amazing stuff. And watch for that climax- one of the best ever.
