Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Jerry N — 21 Apr 2008
Without question a good film. I love it how people never realize that this isn't based on the gospels, but on Nikos Kazantzakis's novel. I was actually surprised to see Willem Dafoe as Jesus, and Harvey Keitel as Judas, but they ended up winning me over.
The writing wasn't the best of Scorsese's films. I was also taken off guard as to see an uncharacteristic Scorsese film. There were a couple of shots that were his signature, but most of it was something new from him.
Religious people would probably view this as blasphamous, but it is non-the-less a fine film.
