Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Adam Z — 19 Dec 2008
Best Jesus movie EVER. Seriously, Scorsese knows better than anyone else. You don't even know. Only Paul Schrader could write a script on Jesus that anybody could love, even those who aren't religious (including me).
And it's stupid how people complain about the dream sequence at the end. The sex scene between Jesus and Mary Magdalene is a beautiful moment and is not at all what fundamentalists have made it out to be (of course, maybe that's because Barbara Hershey is so f***ing hot, but whatever).
Is it a blasphemous film? Of course it is. You can't make a great Jesus film and not make it blasphemous- which is why Franco Zefferilli's "Jesus of Nazareth" is probably the only other movie of its kind that stand up to this epic.
