Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Gabor D — 18 Apr 2009
Okay I have to admit that some parts were cooky, for instance Harvey Keitel speaking with a Brooklyn accent, but what this Jesus movie does better than all the Jesus movies before it and after it, is that it explores fundamental philosophical questions about the nature of faith, religion, loyalty, historicity etc.
.. Nothing is untouchable, not even Christianity, in fact if we don't question our religion what does it become? Christianity is a personal path to whatever we ascribe it to. religion in a sense is a spiritual journey and unless we are equipped with the tools to understand that journey the experience can be quite horrific.
Let's face it Christianity isnt the one and only true religion because it's about the path that one takes and really it can be from a multitude of perspectives. that's why this movie is so good because it challenges conventional notions of religion and spirituality - it cant get any better than that!!!!!! Willem Dafoe as Jesus hahahaha now that's funny.
