Review of The Last Supper (1995) by K R — 16 May 2009
A theatric comedy-drama made in 1995, but still relevant if not even more so to today. Acting by our main characters is a bit amateurish, and there are a bit too many bla moments where the characters' whining was annoying.
The movie is predominately in one room, but the set is really well put together; the movie even references the set itself when a character remarks on the degradation of the quality of food -- something I wasn't paying attention to.
Charles Durning had a really good performance shifting between a friendly, happy old man and a blockheaded anti-gay rights clergyman. The ending was also fun. Someone may take issue to the way the characters treated the garden, especially since in another scene there is a big fuss about not getting caught, but I think it was intentionally a fuck up by the characters, not an oversight of production.
Oh....can't believe this was made in 1995!! It seems so 2000-2002.
