Review of The Last Station (2009) by Douglas D — 21 Feb 2010
I really enjoyed this film. Looking at the end of Leo Tolstoy's life, 'The Last Station' was a great way to explore how philosophies become religions, to explore how men become legends, and to explore how love fits into all of it. Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren are worthy of their nominations this awards season, but it was James McAvoy who continues to impress me. After a great performance in 'Atonement,' he stumbled with the task of playing the lead in the watered down 'Wanted,' but now he's back to his impressive ways.
If you're interested in powerful drama and acting that still gets a laugh, in philosophy or religion, or in great tales of love, then I highly recommend 'The Last Station.'.
