Review of The Last Station (2009) by Donna L — 21 Sep 2010
I rented it to see Helen Mirren and Helen Mirren at her best is what I received. Christopher Plumber never really acted his way out of his beard. I was disappointed by the normally brilliant Giamatti. His rigid Russian interpretation of Chertkov was un-enjoyable.
The movie is supposedly about Tolstoy, but it really focuses on the ring of people around him. I really could not focus on James McAvoy's acting, he kept reminding me of his role in "Wanted-2008".
In fact I really could not discern any differences between his interpretation of the roles. Kerry Condon was "nice" to watch, but I never really got her attraction to McAvoy.
