In a remote trailer park, Alex Rogan is restless. He wants the challenge of bigger things, feeling it's time to move on; and that his life must change. But all that will sate this challenge, is a "Starfighter" video game which he turns to for artificial solace; until one night, when he breaks the record and is confronted by a "scout".
This film not being derived of the Lucas-Spielberg sources, turned into a real sleeper at the box office; mainly supported by a host of good.
Performances not the least of which is O'Herlihy's "Grig". It also sports a breakthrough technique featuring all space sequences being composed by computer graphics.
As of May 1999, George Lucas carried on this technical marvel employing it in digital form for well over 2/3 of Star Wars: Episode One; "The Phantom Menace". It also spawned the development of the revolutionary Digital Light.
Projection system virtually eliminating the need for a celluloid film projector. "The Last Starfighter" will go down in history as the first, most important feature of this type.
