Review of The Last Stand (2013) by João P — 21 Jun 2013
Enjoyably solid, if unremarkable thriller that sees Schwarzenegger return to the big screen to lead a rag tag group in of deputies in defense of their town when a drug lord makes a break for the boarder.
Korean director Kim Jee-woon shows none of the spark and flair he bought to The Good, The Bad and the Weird here, opting instead to deliver high noon style thrills and spills. The only stand out sequence is the car chase through the crop field, otherwise you've seen it all before.
Still for all that the humor hits more than it misses, the characters are likeable (if paper thin) and action is fast and furious. Perfect Friday/Saturday night viewing with beers, mates and pizza.
