(2013) The Last Stand.
ACTION/ COMEDY.
There's like a 45 minute set up which is also about the time where Arnold makes his first kill regarding one of Mexico's cartel's successful escape from prosecution. His name is Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) and part of the plan is to escape across the border by going through a small town nearby called "Sommerton" where Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) happens to be a sheriff to along with his 4 to 5 deputies- one of them played by Johnny Knoxville having to face a slew of powerful thugs with many high powerful weapons helping Cortel escape. Directed by Kim Jee-woon his first Hollywood debut which may also be his first attempt at making an action picture after directing many shock films from his native South Korea is not a bad effort but upon looking at Arnold himself looks totally different than what viewers are used to seeing him other films including cameo appearances from recent "The Expendables" since in this one he looks like he was wearing another dark layer of skin on his face which is the result of being in the sun way too long. He obviously looks much older but the action scenes in comparison to his last film "Terminator 3: Rise Of the Machines" is very few but manages to keep things entertaining by allowing him to say the few funny lines that may not be in the script which I counted to be three with the last line being the funniest.
It's not the best but at the same time it's not the worst I've ever seen him in- it is better than "Collateral Damage", and that the characters are not dumbed down like in "Terminator 3" since the scenario is much more enjoyable.
2.5 out of 4.
