Review of The Last Seduction (1994) by Gregory S — 27 Nov 2012
The life of a femme fatale hasn't been this intriguing since Sharon Stone graced the screen in Basic Instinct. Linda Fiorentino provides her sultry voice and black widow-like figure to the role of Bridget Gregory. She's a tough broad who uses her feminine wilds to get what she wants. She's strictly amoral, as are most of the characters in the film, and utterly self centered. It appears this is more of a survival mechanism. To any femme fatale, it's always about one thing: Financial security (and free from any male counter part). A mate to a femme fatale is like a life sentence. They'd prefer jail than spend time with a man.
She does, however, need men to further her schemes if she ever wants that peace of mind. So she hooks up with a doctor named Clay and somehow gets him involved in scoring a drug deal. It turns out to be a success with $700,000 in tow. She quickly high tails it out of there while he takes a shower. Clay is righteously pissed at these turn of events and seeks her out immediately with a private dick on her trail.
She heads to Chicago and stops off in a small town where she meets her next conquest. His name is Mike and he becomes her sex object. Mike increasingly doesn't enjoy it since his feelings keep getting in the way of her nympho urges. He likes her and is utterly smitten with her. He's the perfect fly in her web of deceit.
Bridget consults with her lawyer on the matter of the money and discovers that Clay has sent a private detective. She takes up a fake name, works at an insurance company and settles in the small town while banging Mike constantly. This detective becomes easily dispatched by way of a perfect telephone poll "accident". She figures that Clay will send another and he does. So the best course of action would be to get rid of Clay. How she does this would require all of her cunning in getting the sex toy Mike to go along with being implicated (while never really knowing that he'd be implicated) in murdering Clay. She's a devilish thing for sure.
I remember seeing this film on Cinemax one night when I was a little bit younger than I am now. I don't know what impression it had on me then. I guess because it was something that had sex in it and was late at night got me intrigued. Now, having seen it again after a loooong time, it's quite good. The sex scenes still hold up. Not too steamy, but erotic enough to enjoy. Linda Fiorentino received many praises from critics for her performance and she would've gotten an Oscar nomination if the film wasn't sent directly to t.v. A bummer for Linda, but she luckily scored an Independent Film Award for Best Actress at the time.
Overall, If I was Bridget's sex monkey I would do anything for her. Even if it means that I'll end up in prison for the rest of my life for murder, it would be so worth it. The End.
