Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Jd T — 03 Nov 2010
I love this movie. Gotta be honest when I first heard of it I thought "Seriously, Tom Cruise...Samurai = dumb..." But I was gladly mistaken. A very inspiring movie with, in my opinion, a lot of Christ-like influence. Not saying thats the director's or the movie's motive was, but it is what received from it. And I like it :).
Many quotes stuck out to me, I shall share a few:
" I've never been a church going man, and what I've seen on the field of battle has led me to question God's purpose. But there is indeed something spiritual in this place. And though it may forever be obscure to me, I cannot but be aware of its power..." - Though many question God, there is still something very powerful about His presence.
I want to be "an intriguing people. From the moment they wake they devote themselves to the perfection of whatever they pursue...such discipline. I am surprised to learn that the word Samurai means, 'to serve'...".
And lastly, "Emperor - "Tell me how he died" Algren - I will tell you how he lived." - Many know and tell of how Christ died, but since I am alive, I want to know and tell others how He lived, so that we 'may have life and may have it to the fullest' (John 10:10).
I hope you enjoy this movie as much as my beautiful bride and I did.
