Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Nick A — 27 Apr 2011
I very much enjoy culture shock movies but this was by far better than the initial shock effect. This film, deeply enriched in the honor of Japan, accuses the imperialism and venerates the culture of old.
The plot far out did the action when there was only about 5 battle scenes but held a perfect balance. The sets, costume design, and props were very appealing to 17th century Japan. And the plot was very adequate.
One of Tom Cruise's best films and a great movie for any history/culture junkie.
