Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Songeehn C — 13 Feb 2012
Wee Tom doing what he does best, the action hero. Think Japanese 'Dances with Wolves'; the Noble Savage destroyed brutally by the wicked European / Americans. It's a myth of our times. The narrative is clichà (C)ed , and the characters stereotyped, but it's not an entirely bad film.
Worth it to see Billy Connolly essaying an Irish accent ... it's overlong, too, and hard to follow in places. The fight choreography is not always clear, either. Apparently it was more popular in Japan than in the USA, which speaks in its favour.
