Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Jason R — 04 Apr 2012
Though the plot is in many ways predictable, the execution by the actors excuses it. Cruise is at his best, and Ken Watanabe, who is one of the most underrated Asian actors out there, is phenomenal, and brings the performances of all the other actors up to a new level.
The filmmakers execute a solid epic that does not compromise itself despite the presence of the biggest of the big name actors, and Cruise is to be commended for being part of the story, not above it.
