Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Jeff C — 30 Dec 2012
Expertly produced, well directed and engrossing. The scenic art direction, epic battles and entrancing culture it is in are what hold it up as a good movie. My gripe with it is that this film should be a cross culture look into themes like retribution, grace, tradition and the samurai code, unfortunately what it is borders on melodrama and fluff.
Cruise's acting at times is unconvincing and the script is utterly flawed but the rest of the movie is too good to pass up.
