Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Preston C — 14 Jul 2013
Known widely for its action sequences, when I gave this movie a try I was quite pleased with Tom Cruise performance. Although his character is a changed man by the end of the film, the transition just isn't smooth enough, so Nathan Algren appears more brainwashed and indoctrinated than righteous.
I wasn't so into the battle or combat scenes as I was intrigued by the fictional collision between the Western and Eastern nineteenth century legends. This is what makes the film more original than most would give it credit.
