Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Michael E — 07 Nov 2010
A five minute sequence of Samurai versus Ninjas? You don't need to say anything else! I'm in!
Very enjoyable to watch. There's a lot to talk about, but I'd like to keep this relatively short, unlike the film.
To outline the bad points of the film first... It's very long and inevitably slow and it can be very unrealistic at times. I personally don't buy that an American Captain can train alongside and best a village of Samurai in 6 short months.
However, there are many very good points to this film! The village setting is, let's face it, beautiful. The way the film portrays the Samurai way of life could be inaccurate, or very accurate - that's something this reviewer is unsure of - but either way, it's very peaceful and inspiring to watch on screen. The battle scenes are intense and very well choreographed.
The film has a very satisfying story and ending and is a film very much worth experiencing.
