This is without a doubt Tom Cruise's finest performance ever. Although there is a bit of inaccurate weapon usage in The Last Samurai, the dialogue is fantastic and the characterization and wondrous battle scenes manage to keep your attention throughout the entirety of it's 2 and a half hour length.
